Much of our work comes via architects’ recommendation. We want you to want us to be on the team you are assembling for your project. We truly believe in collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas between all disciplines – the best designs are invariably a product of a well-tuned team. Too many projects suffer from conflicting interests and lack of understanding and empathy between the various involved parties, but this is not how we work.

We see our role as much more than just ‘making architecture stand up’ by crunching out calculations. Instead, our aim is to come up with ideas that respond to and enhance the architectural vision. Hand sketches are usually how these ideas are born, later tested and refined by analysis and calculation.

We know how complex an architect’s role is and how many dots you need to connect – our goal is to make this easier.

Even if your project is at its very outset, we’d love to hear from you – even brief and informal input from an engineer at the concept stage can often provide reassurance that the ideas are feasible or highlight potential technical issues to watch out for.

Here are examples of the input we provide working with architects (from the most high-level/early stage to the fine detail):

  • structural feasibility studies and scheme options (RIBA Stage 2 or earlier)
  • historic buildings research and archive studies
  • basement impact assessments and other structural and civil engineering input for planning
  • reports and structural statements for listed building consent applications
  • design coordination using a variety of tools, from hand sketches initially to BIM at the detailed stages
  • information for budgeting and project cost estimates
  • general structural and civil engineering design and specification
  • design of architectural feature secondary structures, such as staircases
